As part of ongoing efforts to provide their guests with an even better experience, they decided it was time for an innovative upgrade. The existing system, where guests received passes with their bookings, no longer met expectations. Therefore, the decision was made to implement an advanced license plate recognition system, which would ensure smoother access to the park and a faster check-in process. Reflecting on the decision, Ackersate said:
“We envision a future where our guests can enjoy seamless entry and fully contactless check-ins. This system not only speeds up the process but also aligns with our goal to continuously adopt the latest advancements in hospitality and convenience, ensuring a modern and welcoming environment for all our visitors.”
Three-Fold Integration Strategy
After thorough analysis and consultation, AVUTEC cameras emerged as the perfect choice for a challenging project involving 14 barriers, which required integration with both a reservation system and an access control system. Additionally, it was essential that all employees have automated access, and the system offers the possibility to open the barrier for non-registered vehicles manually. To meet all requirements, it was necessitated to follow a three-fold integration strategy:
1. Integration with Bookingexperts
As Ackersate uses Bookingexperts as their reservation system, this will serve as the entry point for managing license plates.
2. Integration with Salto systems
Salto systems is already installed for access management, including the fourteen barriers that are at the entry and access points.
3. CortexParking
CortexParking is AVUTEC’s application to manage an onboard whitelist, enabling automatic barrier operation for pre-approved license plates. Additionally, the system allows for manual override, granting access to vehicles with non-registered license plates by manually opening the barrier.
This multi-layered approach ensures robust operation and streamlines management across multiple access points.
Keeping a Multi-Route System Manageable: The Integration in More Detail
Ackersate holiday park faces numerous scenarios that require opening its barriers, and maintaining simplicity and manageability is crucial. To avoid the complications of entering license plates into multiple systems, the AVUTEC integration team suggested assigning a permanent, non-changeable “house license plate” to each house and camping pitch within the park. These unique codes are then entered into the Salto access control system and do not require any changes.
The integration at Ackersate has resulted in a sophisticated multi-route system to manage barrier access effectively:
Route 1:
Upon recognizing a license plate, the camera consults with Bookingexperts to verify the reservation and check-in status. Bookingexperts then sends the hashed “house number plate” (26 bit Wiegand) back to the camera, which forwards this code to Salto. If Salto’s database recognizes the code, the barrier opens, allowing entry.
Route 2:
Simultaneously, all recognized license plates are hashed into a 26 bit Wiegand signal by the camera and sent to Salto for verification. If a license plate is found in Salto’s database, the barrier automatically opens.
Route 3:
Additionally, the system includes an onboard whitelist for employees. When a recognized license plate matches an entry on this list, the camera activates its relay functionality to open the gate directly, ensuring swift access for staff.
Route 4:
For vehicles with non-registered license plates that arrive at the reception, the reception team can utilize CortexParking to manually open the barrier. Upon receiving the signal, the camera responds by activating the relay to open the barrier.
This integrated system ensures a seamless, secure, and efficient flow of traffic into and out of the park, accommodating a variety of scenarios from guest arrivals to employee access.
Reinier van der Togt, CEO of AVUTEC, commented on the solution, “This approach not only simplifies the management of access points across Ackersate but also enhances the security and efficiency of the entire system, allowing us to provide a seamless experience for residents and visitors alike.”
Multi Party Collaboration
The success of this project required collaboration among various specialized parties.
Ackersate served as the client, setting the vision and requirements for the system.
AVUTEC provided the license plate cameras, which formed the core of the system and implemented the integration.
RF Security Technology was brought in as the installer of the cameras and acted as the contact and partner for Ackersate throughout the entire process.
Bookingexperts supplied the reservation system that needed to integrate seamlessly with the license plate recognition.
Salto, the existing access control system, was upgraded to work with the new system.
Finally, Tosch played a crucial role as the IT partner, responsible for the technical infrastructure and support.
Thanks to the collaboration of these parties, Ackersate holiday park is now able to offer its guests a faster, safer, and more modern check-in experience, making their stay even more enjoyable.
