The Mediolanum Parking in Largo Corsia dei Servi in the heart of the historic center of Milan reopens on Wednesday 29 May 2024, after five years: 300 rotating parking spaces serving citizens and tourists, in a multi-storey car park totally renovated and renovated according to the most modern technological and safety concepts.
The car park, located in Largolane dei Servi 15, between Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Corso Europa, a stone's throw from the Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and near the University of Milan, was built in 1973, and was closed since 2019.
Mediolanum Parking will be managed by APCOA Italia S.p.A, - a company of the APCOA Group, European leader in parking and mobility services - on behalf of the Fund Manager Catella Real Estate AG. - specialized in the field of real estate investments - who owns it. APCOA oversaw and participated in the renovation interventions which involved both the redistribution of spaces in the seven parking floors, with new dimensions of the stalls, lights and flows, and the adoption of payment access, remote booking and surveillance technologies and lighting.
The new infrastructure was inaugurated with the symbolic ribbon cutting in the presence of Franco Lucente, regional councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the CEO of APCOA Italia, Arturo Benigna, and Isabel Jager, Senior Investment Manager Catella Real Estate AG.
“We are proud to have contributed significantly to the rebirth of this iconic work in the center of Milan which for many years had been subject to progressive deterioration, after several unsuccessful sales attempts made by the Municipality of Milan, also due to the technical complexity financial recovery”, declares Arturo Benigna, CEO of APCOA Italia. “We therefore thank the prestigious European Fund Manager Catella Real Estate AG., which purchased the structure from the Municipality of Milan, not only for the trust it has placed in us with the assignment of management, but for having delegated the most important part to APCOA significance of recovery activities and technological choices. We think we have repaid this trust by giving new life to this work, proposing even more innovative and evocative solutions compared to our already high standards, to the benefit of our users' experience. This intervention also represents a confirmation of our attachment to the city of Milan and the Lombardy Region in whose infrastructural context, of very high quality, a significant portion of our most prestigious managements interact harmoniously."
Franco Lucente, regional councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, added: "An initiative that goes in the direction desired by the Lombardy Region, guaranteeing adequate solutions for sustainable, technologically advanced mobility capable of responding to citizens' needs. If we want to make our cities places that are truly accessible to all, it is necessary to set up modern and safe infrastructures, in the name of intermodality between transport systems which is the only way forward for a functional connection between places and travel methods".
Wolfgang Oelke, Head of Portfolio Management, Catella Real Estate AG, said: “We are delighted to further strengthen our strategic partnership with APCOA through the development of the Mediolanum car park. The technical repositioning of the car park was a particular challenge, which is why the clear coordination of the measures with the future needs of the APCOA operator was essential for the success of the project. We would therefore like to thank both APCOA and our technical service providers for their fruitful collaboration, which has been fundamental to the success of the construction work. The further geographical diversification of the car parks portfolio in a large metropolis like Milan is also a valuable addition to the fund, which further optimizes the risk/return profile. We believe that the fund will not only benefit from the good positioning of the asset in the lively centre of Milan, but also has the conviction of making a positive contribution to the further development of the city of Milan together with our operational partner APCOA.”
The renovated Mediolanum Parking will be at the service of citizens and will contribute to making Milan increasingly at the forefront of services and in line with the liveability standards of other large European cities, with particular attention to safety.
The car park is open 24 hours a day and is equipped with the most modern control technologies for user safety thanks to around 50 cameras installed throughout the structure, as well as the roller shutter doors which will be installed in the next few days and activated during the night hours. The entry and exit flows, as well as the accesses, are managed by the latest generation SKIDATA systems.
