Municipality of Sassari and APCOA Announce New Concessions for Sassari Motorists

Encourage the Use of Parking in the Structures of via Dei Mille, Viale Dante and Mercato Civico

- Sassari, Italy
Numerous Improvements Are Planned for the Municipal Car Parks of Viale Dante, via Dei Mille and the Civic Market.

The incentives proposed by APCOA in the business plan drawn up on the basis of the experience gained in Sassari over the last six years have been in force for a few days. The company was recently awarded the management of the municipal car parks of Viale Dante, Via dei Mille and the Civic Market for another 12 months, including in the offer a series of commercial proposals that were ratified by Palazzo Ducale through a resolution of the council led by Mayor Giuseppe Mascia.

Specifically, discounted parking rates will be introduced during the least used hours and days, such as the afternoon, nights from Monday to Saturday and all of Sunday. To optimize the availability of spaces and encourage the rational use of parking areas, new parking products at lower prices are also planned, the possibility of booking a parking space on promotion, and even more advantageous subscriptions, which can also be purchased through the e-commerce platform. Not only that: users of the three facilities managed by APCOA  will be able to access the new solutions combined with bike sharing, in order to integrate sustainable mobility and facilitate travel in the city.

As part of the agreements regarding the temporary management of municipal parking lots, numerous improvements are also planned for the three structures. At the Mercato, for example, six new cameras will be installed, while night surveillance will be increased on Via dei Mille, where lighting will be implemented on the ground floor and mezzanine. On Viale Dante, the brackets and gutters will be removed, with subsequent scraping and painting of the affected area, and the external graffiti will be removed, as at the Mercato. Partial remaking of the horizontal signage and maintenance of the greenery is also planned.

In order to make it more usable, the management system will be updated in the Viale Dante car park, while the Unipolmove electronic toll collection service will be introduced in the Via dei Mille and Mercato car parks (in addition to the existing Telepass), with variable message panels, a traffic light on the ground floor of Via dei Mille and improved approach signs. Also planned for Via dei Mille is the construction of a charging station for electric vehicles and the installation of vending machines and lockers for parcel delivery.

"We work daily to rationalize urban traffic and promote sustainable mobility in the city center," says the mayor of Sassari, Giuseppe Mascia. "The use of parking lots located in strategic areas of the city would allow us to rethink the road system in the nineteenth-century and historic part of Sassari to accommodate pedestrians, bicycles and public transport, thus making the city more attractive and suitable for its residential, commercial and service functions," continues the mayor.

"Encouraging the use of parking in the structure is essential to promote better traffic quality and better enjoyment of the city", comments the councilor for Infrastructure for mobility and Traffic, Massimo Rizzu. "Making the structures better and parking more convenient, especially in certain time slots and weekly periods - concludes the councilor - will allow us to understand their real potential also in order to define an overall long-term strategy".
