New Lanewatch CCTV at Hackney

APCOA’s Park & Guard (enforcement services) contract in Hackney has gone live with six new Lanewatch CCTV cameras to help curb vehicles violating the roadways and bus lane restrictions.

Following a consultation of the traffic and parking enforcement CCTV technology back in April 2013, APCOA has worked closely with the London Borough of Hackney in north east London (UK), to identify the best solution and hot spots where the most offences occur.

The new enforcement cameras have now been installed across five central locations in the borough to capture contraventions in real-time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  These comprise Cecilia Road, Brooke Road, Bolelyn Road, Lea Bridge Road and Ridley Road.

Through the introduction of the new cameras and improved signage, it is hoped that more drivers will avoid the temptation to drive the wrong way down no entry streets, and improve road safety in the process.

The measure of how successful the new Lanewatch cameras are will ultimately be based on the reduction in penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued from one-month to the next.  The CCTV will also serve as a welcome deterrent and reinforce the need for all drivers to be compliant with the Highway Code.

The new state-of-the-art unmanned cameras use a single, common enforcement platform with multiple evidence capture device options, which feed into a back-office system.  Vehicles found to be in contravention are reviewed by a member of APCOA’s processing team in Hackney, who will decipher whether there are any mitigating circumstances before issuing a PCN.
