APCOA PARKING Launches First Public Private Mobility Hub
APCOA FLOW Digital Mobility Platform Gives Access to New Mobility Hubs
Platform will support the steady growth of car sharing fleets with access and payment services to off-street parking.
Europe’s leading parking space manager, APCOA PARKING, joined forces with Berlin’s public transport company, BVG, and a host of other partners to open a new intermodal mobility hub. With the first public private and fully integrated mobility hub right next to a highly frequented underground and commuter rail station, switching from local public transport to shared individual mobility (and vice versa) couldn’t be simpler or more convenient. Access to the new mobility hub is restricted to users of the APCOA FLOW digital mobility platform.
The new hub connects all types of mobility, spanning public and private operators, and allows Berliners to use different kinds of mobility modes seamlessly in one place. The car sharing vehicles from Mobileeee, Oply and Miles are equipped with RFID chips that communicate directly with FLOW to automatically open the car park’s barriers. With the RFID chips of APCOA FLOW, users also have access to over 200 APCOA car parks with more than 100,000 parking spaces across Germany. Customers can seamlessly enter, leave and make cashless payments without the need for tickets. Thus, APCOA is providing a platform for the steady growth of car sharing fleets, including over 2,000 vehicles in Berlin alone.
“Our partnership with the BVG is a perfect fit with APCOA’s strategy of combining parking with urban mobility, intelligently and conveniently. By transforming our parking space into an intermodal mobility hub, we are creating a central platform for new mobility services”, explains Philippe Op De Beeck, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group. “In Berlin, we combine APCOA FLOW with the resources of a public transportation company and thus put our platform to public use”.
Currently, APCOA FLOW has already been implemented in nine European countries. “APCOA FLOW is our answer to key societal trends, such as urbanisation and digitalisation, and to the emergence of entirely new mobility concepts that are changing the economic fundamentals of the parking industry. And the range of functions offered by APCOA FLOW right now is just the beginning – we have designed the system so that additional services can be easily added and flexibly integrated,” says Op de Beeck.
