EuroPark wins landmark parking contract at new Swedish national arena

EuroPark Svenska AB, the subsidiary of APCOA Parking Group, has been awarded the contract for the parking management at the new “FRIENDS ARENA” in Solna, north of Stockholm. After a highly competitive tender process, owner Peab AB opted for the EuroPark offer, citing the strength of its innovative commercial thinking, superior operational and business model, and its background of broad local knowledge plus international know-how as reasons for the decision.

The “FRIENDS ARENA” was officially opened on October 27th, 2012. The Swedish Football Association, Solna Stad, Jernhusen, Peab and Fabege are its owners. Now it is the new home stadium of Sweden’s national football team, as well as of AIK Football Club. The multi-functional arena (football, hockey, concerts, etc.) is one of the world’s most modern stadiums to date.

“FRIENDS ARENA” is also the centerpiece of an innovative urban development area called Arenastaden (“Arena City”), featuring new shopping centers, private property and office buildings. It is considered an urban area where traffic management and creative parking management will be of crucial importance in the course of future development. Hence the interest in the tender process  shown by Swedish and Scandinavian real estate companies and landlords, given the size of the project at hand and its operational challenges.

In the first phase of the contract, starting first of January 2013, EuroPark AB will manage the stadium’s garage with approximately 900 parking spaces.  With the negotiations on the tendered traffic management starting in January/February of 2013, the tasks of EuroPark AB around the new “FRIENDS ARENA” may quickly and sizably grow.
