Adaptive Recognition: An Exemplary Parking System at the Ostrava Airport in Czechia
At the Leoš Janáček International Airport of Ostrava, Czechia, parking is now better and more convenient, thanks to a new smart parking system based on Adaptive Recognition’s professional license plate technology. The system includes entry terminals, payment kiosks, exit terminals, automatic sensors, image capturing, and automatic license plate recognition (ANPR) – with the latter two using the Carmen® ANPR software and ParkIT ANPR cameras. However, since 2021, similar parking systems are installed with the latest generation of smart access control cameras, Einar.
Regardless of the chosen camera, the parking process is as simple as it gets with Adaptive Recognition’s solutions. Whenever a vehicle approaches the barrier, the entry loop under the road’s surface detects the car. It then opens the gate once the driver either retrieves the ticket or, if they possess a time-limited (digital) parking card, scans their dedicated QR code. When the parking is finished – indicated by paying the parking fee at one of the payment terminals – and the car approaches the exit, the ANPR cameras capture and recognize the vehicle’s license plate. If the parking system confirms that the vehicle’s owner has duly paid the parking fee, the barrier automatically opens, and the car can leave the parking lot.
The whole process is fully automated, requiring no human interference, except vehicle owners, of course. However, the use of automatic license plate recognition (ANPR) in parking solutions like the one installed at Ostrava’s airport can have additional benefits parking system operators may not think of at first:
- Security: access can be managed purely based on license plates, significantly accelerating the entry/exit process. Additionally, having all entry/exit data linked to plates gives a data source for future use that can come in handy when a specific vehicle has to be searched.
- Payment: having the license plate data digitally and measuring parking time using the entry and exit time stamps provides a more accurate input for the billing system.
- Resource optimization: since ANPR conveniently performs license plate capturing on its own, the parking staff can be tasked with more important duties, saving operators.
About Adaptive Recognition
Adaptive Recognition is a group of creative minds, developing and manufacturing AI-based image processing technology, for the traffic, security, and identity industries.
Adaptive Recognition's first major successes came with our globally market-leading Carmen® ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) product, which is capable of automatically recognizing and reading images of car license plates. This was followed by introducing various standardized codes, which are used, among other things, in shipping or printed on ID documents like passports.
The small startup transformed into a professional international company with locations in Denmark, the USA, Asia-Pacific, Central-Europe, and Singapore, with 300+ employees and 30+ representative partners worldwide.
