POD Point and Airparks have partnered to offer free electric vehicle charging at Birmingham and Luton airport car parks.

POD Point

POD Point, the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of electric vehicle charging stations, has today announced a partnership with Airparks, who own and operate off airport car parks at two of the UK’s busiest airports.

The move will see a total of four POD Point units installed at Airparks’ Birmingham and Luton car parks. Following the installation, Airparks will become the UK’s first off-airport car park to offer free electric vehicle (EV) charging. The units will be in place and available for use to all EV drivers that are looking to park their car at the airports from the end of this month.

Airparks provides low cost airport parking from £2.99 a day for over 600,000 customers a year and this is the first (EV) charging installation for Airparks.

Erik Fairbairn, CEO of POD Point, said: “This move makes sense for all parties. It gives EV drivers a clear destination of choice for secured off airport parking. This new partnership is an indicator of our expanding network and a further step towards our target of having a POD Point everywhere people park for an hour or more by 2020.”

Andrew Bird, General Manager at Airparks, commented, "We are proud to be the first off-airport car park to offer free electric vehicle (EV) charging at our Birmingham and Luton car parks. We're committed to constantly evolving our products to benefit our customers’ needs; and this new service means that people driving electric vehicles can use Airparks' car parks and return from their trip to a fully charged vehicle. The EV market is growing year on year and we hope that Airparks will be the car park of choice for EV owners flying from Birmingham and Luton."

Airparks is the latest in a stream of high profile partnerships secured by POD Point as EV ownership starts to grow in the UK. Only last month a partnership was announced to be the sole charge provider for the Hyundai Ioniq range, while this followed similar agreements earlier this year with Volkswagen and Nissan to be the recommended supplier of home and workplace charge points in the UK.
