US Implementing More Green Electronic Improvements

It seems like the US is really making an effort being sustainable and green! Every day when I look around the internet searching for interesting news to publish on Parking Network, I come across a lot of new items telling me that another city or college has implemented electric vehicle charging stations to their parking lots.

For example, here´s an article about newEV charging stations at the Washington University in St. Louis (See picture in upper left corner). Two parking spots for electric vehicles have been installed at the parking lot outside of Brauer Hall. An interesting fact is that these charging stations were realized thanks to the work of a sofhomore, Elisabeth Mohr. She did an independent study project in chemical engineering. In the article she says: “I learned a lot about electric vehicle charging stations and all of the features and different considerations that you have to look at when choosing one”. The University hopes that the installation of the charging stations encourages both students and employees to drive their electric vehicles to campus. They have made a start in giving people the opportunity to drive electric vehicles and be more environmental-friendly. Because if there are no charging stations to be found, people won’t be eager to drive their EV’s around.

But no matter how much you try, USA, you will never top this parking space:

 Most expensive parking places

(Picture: CNN)

Okay, it’s not that hard to top this one in looks and convenience. I’ve seen better, a whole lot better. The parking spaces at our local grocery store look better. But do you know how much this ugly, grey, kind of dirty parking space costs?

$640,000

This ridiculous! I mean, look at it! With this price and these looks, you'd think it must be at a perfect location. Well, according to the owner of the parking space, Mr. Tong, it is “the best parking space he ever had”, because it’s only twenty steps away from the elevator and his office. Well, I would expect more than that for a parking space that costs about $5,000 per square foot.

Research proves that the parking prices in Hong Kong, where this particular parking space is also located, are the priciest in the Asia-Pacific area. Reason for the high prizes in Hong Kong (with a monthly median parking rate of $744.72 in 2011) seems to be that the Hong Kong property market is a so-called “bubble about to burst”. Read all about it in the CNN news item World's most expensive parking places.
