The new Lexus IS has the coolest in-car navigation system I’ve ever heard of. It doesn’t just provide directions, but also guides you to available parking spaces. In real-time! Lexus and Inrix partnered up and delivered a navigation system that can detect nearby free parking spaces. But, that’s not all the system can do.
The second cool feature of the in-car navigation system is that it compares parking garage prices. While driving, you can check out the price difference between the different garages nearby. Do you want to park as cheap as possible? Then the system will direct you to the cheapest garage closest to your destination. The downside is that garages have to be connected to the Inrix services, otherwise they are not included. But then again, there are currently over 42,000 car parks connected throughout Europe. I’m sure you’ll find one that suits your needs.
The third feature I’d like to mention has nothing to do with parking actually, but is very convenient: The system can detect the fastest route from your location to your destination. Nothing new here, you probably think. But the system takes external factors in account like weather conditions, traffic congestion, road works, traffic accidents etc – everything that can influence your trip. It automatically re-routes while you’re driving so you can be sure you really have the fastest route. Isn’t that great? It can even detect where people are standing still in traffic through a crowd-sourced network.
