Parking Network's February Highlights

Don't miss out on February's main headlines.

Any remaining January blues seem far behind as we enter March, and spring is very much in the air here at Parking Network HQ! How was your February? At Parking Network we welcomed several new members to our parking community and watched our Quick Question video segment grow. Read on for all the latest from Parking Network and a recap of highlights from the industry.

From the Parking Network Team

For our latest Quick Question, we asked our industry experts Is Parking Dead? And thank goodness, the answer was a resounding no! In fact, the responses we received could keep the James Bond movie franchise in business for many films to come, and our favorite champion for the next movie title, certainly beating “No Time To Die”, is… “Parking Cannot Die”.

Tune in to the Parking Network homepage every day to see what our industry experts have to say, and watch our latest Quick Question round-up to find out why parking is only at the beginning of its renaissance:

February also saw the final installment of Parking Trends for 2020, where we heard what solutions will take center stage this year. Watch the video and read the blog post to find out how the parking industry will be driven by big data, e-commerce, radar technology, and eMobility.

Speaking of eMobility, this month we shone the spotlight on green and sustainable parking. Check out The Green, Green Grass of…Parking? to find out how the climate crisis is challenging the parking industry to clean up its act, and where you can find the world’s largest solar carport.

Parking Network On the Road

For March and April, we are very much looking forward to PIE 2020 and Intertraffic Amsterdam. Are you attending the Parking Industry Expo in March? Why not pop by Booth 541 to catch up with us and all the latest goings-on in the industry? And at Intertraffic Amsterdam we will be hosting some evening drinks, giving you the perfect opportunity to network and mingle with your parking peers – more details will be coming soon!

Movers and Shakers in the Industry

Headshot of a businessman in a white shirt, blue tie and black suit jacketIn February, as we welcomed many new people to the industry, we also waved a familiar face a fond farewell. At Parking Sense, Ed Robinson stepped up to the position of CEO to guide the company through the next phase of rapid growth. Meanwhile, after 14 years at DESIGNA, Dr. Thomas Waibel resigned as CEO. During his time at DESIGNA, Dr. Waibel instilled in his team the importance of customer demand and began the ongoing process of digitalization.

Headline Highlights

Payment companies have driven the headlines this month. Crane Payment Innovations acquired Cummins Allison, a leading provider of coin, currency, and check handling solutions.

Worldline and Ingenico combined to become the world’s number four player, and undisputed European champion in payment services.

It has been a busy month for Ingenico who also collaborated with 3C Payment to launch two new terminal solutions that will provide a secure and seamless customer experience.

AIMS Mobile Pay, the new app extension to EDC Corporation’s parking management suite, has launched, promising to offer customers increased convenience whilst generating revenue opportunities and operational efficiencies for parking operators.

In the spirit of cooperation, several Parking Network members took the opportunity to collaborate in February. Parkos and ParkinGo joined forces to make airport parking reservations available to passengers at 17 more airports across Italy and Spain.

Also in the airport parking niche, AeroParker and SKIDATA signed an agreement to give SKIDATA customers access to AeroParker’s parking and ancillary pre-booking platform.

Elsewhere ParkHub and HERE Technologies made advances in event parking by integrating ParkHub’s growing reservoir of real-time parking inventory to HERE’s platform.

February was a cause for celebration for ParkMobile as they reached the 18 million users milestone. Having grown 110% over the past two years, ParkMobile is well on track to reach 22 million users in 2020.

In the UK, thrillseekers will be given an easy ride, at least in the car park, as theme park giants, Merlin Entertainments chose HUB Parking Technology for a Global Framework Agreement.

And, in Cologne, Cleverciti has been busy transforming the humble lamppost into smart city hubs of the future. The project in Cologne marks the deployment of the world’s most comprehensive on-street parking guidance system in a move set to ease traffic and reduce emissions.
