With coronavirus restrictions remaining in place around the world, April may have been a quieter month than usual, but there is still plenty going on out there. At Parking Network, we launched the Parking Network Virtual Conference, helping to connect parking professionals around the world. And the roundup of headlines below paints a more reassuring picture of how the industry is weathering this storm.

The first edition of our Parking Network Virtual Conference was a great success. The packed agenda enticed an audience of more than 700 parking professionals on the first day and 900 on the second. The Parking Talks: Combatting COVID-19 discussion was a particular highlight as captains of the industry, Hans Puvogel, Eliseo Diaz, Jeff Perkins, Lester Mascon, Dieme Ketel and Neil Corr shared their insight into the greatest challenge facing the parking industry.

A new partnership between ParkHub and SportTechie is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for fans of over 200 professional sports teams as ParkHub’s mobile point-of-sale units are introduced at venues across the United States.

Product Launch Podium

Innova has launched SIRAM Analytics which, when combined with their ALPR OCR5 and deep learning, can identify vehicle features such as type and brand.

Dahua Technology has released WizMind, a portfolio of vehicle identification solutions. Powered by an AI chip and deep learning algorithms WizMind uses ANPR technology to manage functions such as blacklist, VIP recognition and enforcement.

COVID-19 News

Magnified coronavirus In response to the coronavirus, ADVAM and DESIGNA have worked together to develop UPark Plus, a touch-free parking solution for drivers in Adelaide.

Meanwhile, in New York City, the Department of Transport has been working with ParkMobile to introduce a pay-as-you-go system via a mobile app, helping to reduce interaction with the city’s 14,000 parking meters.

The virtual doors at the Bolidt Innovation Center have been flung wide open as the company invites would-be visitors on virtual tours that give them an over-the-shoulder view of an R&D specialist.

And the Best of the Rest…

Scripps Memorial Hospital, red brick building with courtyardParking guidance projects proved popular for many Parking Network Business Members this month. At Scripps Memorial Hospital, Park Assist were chosen to provide patients and visitors with an effortless parking experience. And, in Bahrain, they secured another contract with real estate giant, Edamah, at the Salmaniya Medical Complex.

Camera-based parking guidance from Parkxper has taken the pain out of rush hour for commuters at Taichung Station Park and Ride and is helping transform Taipei Science Park into a technology hub.

Quercus Technologies installed 990 Spot Control units at the Dallas Campus of Children’s Health, monitoring 3,314 spaces with 99.7% accuracy. And in Chile, their license plate recognition technology is providing seamless access at two medical facilities.

And, shoppers at Souk Madinat Jumeirah can easily bag themselves a parking space following Portier’s first installation in the United Arab Emirates.

And, Singen, parking is now as easy as taking a stroll around the city park, thanks to the recent installation of MSR-Traffic's parking guidance technology in two busy parking facilities.

Parking access and revenue control systems and license plate recognition technology has also played an important role in the creation of seamless parking this month.

Following on from the successful implementation of a comprehensive parking access and revenue control system from TIBA Parking Systems, parking is plain sailing for cruise passengers at Port Everglades.

3 people stand by a parking barrier in an outdoor parking lotA frictionless free-flow experience is now on offer at Horb am Necker Park and Ride following the installation of Peter Park’s LPR access management system.

In Maastricht, IEM Group and IP Parking have brought order to the streets by installing 400 new solar powered, touch screen parking meters.

Expansion plans at Manchester Airport Terminal 2 are flying ahead following the application of Triflex’s waterproofing system at two new car parks. Manchester Airport’s capacity will rise from 27 million to 55 million passengers per year.
