Welcome to Part One of Three of the Parkex Preview: Back for 2013

Parkex is returning and set to be the best yet. As Europe’s largest dedicated parking exhibition, visitors will be given the chance to meet and greet over 350 specialist suppliers and get to grips with the latest products and services. Organised by Brintex, on behalf of the British Parking Association, this year’s Parkex will be co-located again with Traffex - Europe’s largest international traffic engineering, road safety, and highway maintenance exhibition. Both will take place in Hall 5 at the NEC Birmingham from 16th - 18th April 2013 with FREE attendance for all visitors.

Some of the largest parking brands from the UK and around the world will use Parkex as the launch-pad for their latest products and services. In addition, this year’s event will feature a larger purpose built Seminar Theatre, offering visitors a wide range of topical briefings and insights from the industry’s leading parking experts. The three-day seminar programme will be free to attend and is organised by the British Parking Association.

Patrick Troy, Chief Executive, British Parking Association, explains the importance of staying up-to-date with the parking profession, “The parking and traffic management sector continues to grow both in size and profile, and affects every road user in the UK. In a year which has seen new legislation for the private parking sector and a renewed interest by the media in local authority parking; it is more important than ever that we work together to deliver a fair and equitable parking service. Parkex and Traffex offer the best in parking and traffic management both through the exhibition and the excellent seminar programme we have organised.”

PARKEX

Free Industry Seminars:

The popular, free-to-attend seminar programme will feature 20 CPD accredited seminars. Organised in association with the British Parking Association, respected experts will provide an industry insight into a wide range of topical issues for both on and off-street parking. Seminars so far include:

The Legacy of the Olympics

A chance to hear from panel members, Sarju Radia Director at E-Street and The Ex Head of Transport from LOCOG, this session will highlight the innovation in parking and traffic management delivered during the Games and explores the legacy impact of the project faced by Councils.

Has Parking Gone Mad? A Sanity Check

Public opinion on parking has never been so widely discussed or shared as it is today – with the advent of social media as well as the more established media channels where the voice of the public can be heard louder than ever. This seminar will explore the views of consumers, distinguish fact from perception, examine why the system works in the way it does and highlights where there is opportunity and need for change. Led by a panel representing the government, consumers, Local Authorities and private operators, this discussion will give attendees the chance to present their thoughts on modern day parking and ask questions relating to this issue.

Town Centres of Tomorrow

Hosted by Guy Douglas from ATCM, this session will look ahead at the potential for the town centres of tomorrow, discussing the benefits of co-operative efforts between businesses and local parking operators which customers respond positively to.

Mapping Out The Next Decade – The Evolution of Map Based Orders

Authorities responsible for management of the road network have to rely on legal documents called Traffic Orders – an important tool in the delivery of traffic management, parking, parking enforcement and road safety. With increasing congestion in our towns and cities, increasing demands on kerb space and targets for road safety, is the Traffic Order fit for purpose, or does it need to be reviewed? Leading the debate, Trevor Clark, Director at Buchanan Order Management, proposes to open the file on Traffic Orders and look carefully at how effective they are at doing their job and communicating their intentions.

CCTV/ANPR Enforcement

Camera enforcement is widely used by numerous sectors for monitoring, security and enforcement purposes. Questions are starting to be asked about whether this type of enforcement is appropriate or necessary in some instances and evidence is emerging of ‘over use’ of cameras. This session looks at the potential for camera enforcement from new and emerging technologies and will review whether cameras are being over used. The discussion will also explore some good practice tools for employing this type of enforcement whilst recognising its potential to help parking providers manage the highway and/or their land.

Car Park Design and Refurbishment - Our 4 Year Car Park Upgrade Plan

This seminar will discuss how USCPL modernised their multi-story car park with everything from the latest technology to branding; as a means of reversing a fall in revenues.

Is that space free? A Case Study of On-Street Real Time Parking Availability

This seminar will include a demonstration of The City of Westminster’s (London, UK) mobile parking app concept and will include a discussion on the use of additional sources, like real-time traffic, and whether to improve space forecast predictions.
