Amsterdam announced their new Parking Plan (article in Dutch). They want parked cars out of the on-street scenery and into new inside parking spaces. The city plans on building an additional 5000 extra off-street parking spaces by the year 2020, in order to get 2600 parked cars out of the streets. In the beginning of 2013, they will open municipal parking garages to license holders and rent unused parking spaces in commercial garages for the next two years. This provides the residents with a total of 3300 parking spaces in municipal and commercial parking garages. The city also plans on building approximately 1700 additional parking spaces in parking garages, partly for relatively cheap parking. The new Parking Plan is funded by a 95 million investment fully covered by existing recources.
Because of the new parking spaces in existing and new parking garages, approximately 1700 on-street parking spaces can be removed by 2020, making the city of Amsterdam look more appealing with less parked cars on the street. It will also shorten the time to find a parking space and the waiting time to get a parking permit. The city makes it possible to make parking permits cheaper in 2013 by giving a refund to people who park at the Park & Ride parking spaces on the outskirts of the city. To release parking problems for people on the waiting list for a permit, a maximum total of 1000 entrepreneur-cards will be available around the summer of 2013 on-street parking, depending on the available space. Parking charges for visitors remain the same, but the Park & Ride parking spaces just outside of the city will expand and these charges will go down. The city will also expand Real Time Parking (pay by minute) to all of the municipal parking garages.
