Jan de Lange from Wassenaar, the Netherlands, who became rich with his parking company P1, has committed suicide. Yesterday morning he jumped in front of a train in Heemstede (NL). De Lange was released from jail 5 months ago, after being locked up for 3 years for murdering his wife in 2010.
The parking magnate choked is wife to death during the Easter weekend in 2010, only months after their marriage. He called the police 2 days later, and told them that “something bad” had happened in his house. After further investigation police discovered that De Lange himself was responsible for the death of his young wife.
Even though friends and business relations described the man as “confused and not acting like himself” for the past few years, they never expected him to be capable of murdering his 37 year-old wife.
De Lange pleaded in court that he got in a rage, believing his wife cheated on him and only married him for his money. Financial concerns were also part of his disturbed state of mind.
De Lange was sentenced to 5 years in prison and TBS (Dutch: compulsory psychological treatment). The millionaire filed an appeal and hired several specialists, who convinced the court that De Lange was insane at the time of the killing, because of psychotic depression. The court also ruled that detention wasn’t longer necessary, since the defence declared that De Lange was successfully treated by other therapies, including shock therapy. His release from jail in November 2013 caused a stir.
De Lange became rich with the parking company P1, the second largest parking operator in the Netherlands. Ironically, De Lange also financially supported the website geenonschuldigenvast.nl (no innocent people in prison.nl), founded by Maurice de Hond because of his role in the Deventer murder case. He was also the one who paid the 120.000 euro for defamation, which De Hond had to pay the handyman in this case. Rumors say that during the time of the murder, De Lange was working on his autobiography “Success” – about his successes as a multi-million businessman.
De Lange’s luxury villa in Wassenaar was recently put on sale for 4.050.000 euro. De Lange moved to Boemendaal.
