How safe and reliable are automated parking systems?
Although relatively new to the US, automated parking systems have been a central component to parking in Europe and Asia for over 30 years, and there is an extensive amount of experience and information on reliability.
As for safety, it’s critical that the product meets US requirements, including electrical components being UL listed, and the product engineered for meeting code, such as seismic and structural strength requirements. It is also critical that parking lift company’s product is designed with sensors and controls to protect people and their vehicles.
As for reliability, the most important aspect of reliability is regular maintenance so that the equipment’s structure, mechanical, and electrical systems are regularly serviced. In CityLift’s experience, we find that right after installation there are usually small adjustments to be made within the first 30 days of use as the system comes online. Also, many service issues are related to users unfamiliar with the system. The single best way to minimize service issues is through a quality training program for customers, property managers, and/or local operators. CityLift employees are ready and available for service, training, and on-going service. CityLift also offers a unique 24/7 remote monitoring system where the system alerts us, and/or the property manager on-site, of any errors. If need be, we can have someone on-site usually within one hour.
